Evaluation Task 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Here is a presentation I have made about my audience feedback and what I have learnt from it. It details what kinds of audience feedback I received, the demographic and psychographic profiling we carried out in order to establish out target audience, application of models and theories as well as examples of audience feedback on our music video and ancillary products.

YouTube Statistics

Here is a SlideShare presentation that I have created which details the YouTube Statistics that I have discovered through my research into who has been viewing my music video. This research and the results I have found out has helped to realise that we have successfully targeted our intended audience.

Evaluation Task 2 - Part 3: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

CONCLUSION

Overall, I believe that the combination of our main product and ancillary products was effective in conveying the star image and unique selling point that we constructed for our band. I personally believe that I have been effective in communicating the theory of the 'star image' and implementing it into my campaign due to the fact that the qualities of the band's star image as well as their organic nature are clear to the audience through all three of the products that make up the music publicity campaign.

We utilised the 1920's theme across all three products in order to create a parallel understanding between the band and the target audience and to convey how this is reflective of the genre of music that the band's music would be categorised under. We have also considered how the three products would appeal to our target audience. This was vital for our campaign/concept because the audiences needed to be able to read these conventions and benefit from all three products of the campaign otherwise they wouldn't buy into the brand and therefore our band would not be successful.

In order to consider how we could make our overall music publicity campaign effective and successful we also looked at similar campaigns to consider how they were able to achieve this. Some of the bands that we looked into were the "Electric Swing Circus" and "Caravan Palace". Through conducting this research it allowed us to see what strategies they used to market their products to their audiences and how we could reflect these strategies in the marketing of our own products.

Additionally, because of the fact that our band is organic in their nature and this is reflected through the fact that they are never in the foreground of any of their products and this may make it difficult for the audience to figure out what kind of people they are. However, this is part of their band's image as their aim is to place more emphasis on their music and less emphasis on their physical image as band members. The band's unique selling point was to blend elements of the old and new and I believe that we were able to do this effectively through the use of the gold embellishment and colour scheme that we used which was reflective of the 1920's period , however it was not too dated and therefore worked appropriately at attracting a wider target audience.

Overall, we used the music video as a visual aid to make the music that the band have created even more intriguing and exciting and it also provided the audience with an opportunity to see what kind of people the band members are like. This also ties in well with the star qualities that the band posses which are creativity and originality.

In conclusion, I believe that we have successful created a succinct campaign whereby all three products that make up the campaign work harmoniously together to reflect the star image and unique selling point of our band.

Evaluation Task 2 - Part 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Here is a video that we have created which explains in what ways the combination of our main product along with the ancillary tasks was effective and in what ways it was not as effective as we had thought.

Evaluation Task 2 - Part 1: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

INTRODUCTION

In order to see how effective our main product ( a 3 minute promotional music video)  was and how effectively it worked with the ancillary tasks (Website and CD Digipak) that we created we had to think about ow the three products reflected the star image and unique selling point of our band.

From my research I discovered that Keith Negus argues that 'a pop music video is used as a promotional tool’ and the branding of the products comes about through the formation of a star image. In addition, branding is also used by the music industry to create a range of products for audiences across a range of genres and musical styles.

When considering how our campaign was going to be marketed at our target audience we considered Philip Kotler's definition of marketing; “Human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants through exchange processes”. This translates as the selling of products and services to the audience and enabling them to buy into the star image. Marketing, for Kotler is the key to success of any campaign and it consists of four variables; the four P’s; Price, Place, Product and Promotion.

The aim for our products was to create a campaign where the three products worked harmoniously together and helped to create an overall impression and theme for the band. Due to the fact that our band is of the electro-swing genre I wanted this to be reflected across all products of the campaign and we achieved this by incorporating elements of the 1920’s into each of the products that make up the music publicity campaign.

Furthermore, for the music video we decided to portray a 1920’s style in terms of the mise-en-scene elements and this was further reflected through our choice of colour scheme for the website along with the golden embellishment effect that we achieved for the design for the CD Digipak.

I believe that we have created a cohesive and effective music publicity campaign where the three products work harmoniously to portray the qualities of the band’s star image; originality, creativity and talent as well as reflecting their organic nature and their USP of blending elements of the old and new. Overall, I believe that the combination of our main product with the ancillary products was effective.
