Evaluation Task 4 - Part 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Overall I have used and developed my skills with a variety of media technologies and have used these technologies creatively as well as using technological convergence in order to create effective media products and a successful campaign.

My creative use of digital technologies such as the Black Magic Camera, Hitfilm, Photoshop and Wix have enabled me to become a prosumer, a creator of media products to a near professional standard.

Furthermore, the use of Adobe Premiere Pro as a piece of editing software has taught me how to select and organise a music video to a very high standard using semi-professional  media equipment.

Additionally, I have also been able to share my creative ideas and research global and industry standard products and the use of digital technology has opened up opportunities for me to upload, share and distribute my products using You tube as a free online broadcast platform.  It is also formed part of an interactive and collaborative process due to the fact that audiences have been able to provide feedback, like and comment on my products using the specific like and comment features on YouTube itself as well as getting video feedback from our focus group sessions and video feedback that we have sourced.

These new skills that I have acquired on this course have enabled me to gain further knowledge and experience not only as a user of digital technology, but also about how to become a producer which has been important for me in terms of gaining a deeper understanding of media in an online age.

From my point of view, my use of digital technology has helped me to form a 'participatory culture'
which was theorised by Henry Jenkins and has demonstrated to me how the Internet has brought digital technology  to the forefront through offering opportunities for regular audience members to produce and upload their own products which is something I have been able to achieve with my own products.

Overall, I have demonstrated how I have been able to successfully use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages of my music publicity campaign and this is shown through the fact that I have created 3 strong media products which have come together and worked harmoniously to create a creative and unique music publicity campaign.

Evaluation Task 4- Part 1: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

As a group, we discussed the various digital technologies that we utilised to create our music video or the track 'Beatophone'. We talked about how the digital technologies that we used can be categorized into hardware, software and online technology.  I used a range of media technologies in order to make our product more varied for example I used YouTube as a research tool as well as for an exhibition platform for our final product. I also utilised other platforms such as Blogger, SlideShare and Prezzi in order to plan and research the process and develop our ideas. Furthermore, the use of digital technologies has allowed me to be innovative and creative during the process of making my music video in addition to playing a big role in the creation of our ancillary products that make up our campaign. From my point of view, this was a creative process that proved to be essential in order to make our products successful.

Evaluation Task 2 - Part 3: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

CONCLUSION

Overall, I believe that the combination of our main product and ancillary products was effective in conveying the star image and unique selling point that we constructed for our band. I personally believe that I have been effective in communicating the theory of the 'star image' and implementing it into my campaign due to the fact that the qualities of the band's star image as well as their organic nature are clear to the audience through all three of the products that make up the music publicity campaign.

We utilised the 1920's theme across all three products in order to create a parallel understanding between the band and the target audience and to convey how this is reflective of the genre of music that the band's music would be categorised under. We have also considered how the three products would appeal to our target audience. This was vital for our campaign/concept because the audiences needed to be able to read these conventions and benefit from all three products of the campaign otherwise they wouldn't buy into the brand and therefore our band would not be successful.

In order to consider how we could make our overall music publicity campaign effective and successful we also looked at similar campaigns to consider how they were able to achieve this. Some of the bands that we looked into were the "Electric Swing Circus" and "Caravan Palace". Through conducting this research it allowed us to see what strategies they used to market their products to their audiences and how we could reflect these strategies in the marketing of our own products.

Additionally, because of the fact that our band is organic in their nature and this is reflected through the fact that they are never in the foreground of any of their products and this may make it difficult for the audience to figure out what kind of people they are. However, this is part of their band's image as their aim is to place more emphasis on their music and less emphasis on their physical image as band members. The band's unique selling point was to blend elements of the old and new and I believe that we were able to do this effectively through the use of the gold embellishment and colour scheme that we used which was reflective of the 1920's period , however it was not too dated and therefore worked appropriately at attracting a wider target audience.

Overall, we used the music video as a visual aid to make the music that the band have created even more intriguing and exciting and it also provided the audience with an opportunity to see what kind of people the band members are like. This also ties in well with the star qualities that the band posses which are creativity and originality.

In conclusion, I believe that we have successful created a succinct campaign whereby all three products that make up the campaign work harmoniously together to reflect the star image and unique selling point of our band.
