The third idea that I have been researching is Chris' idea for the song Scarlet by In this moment which we have been developing as one of our group ideas. I have been looking at various images, websites, social networking sites and music videos. I have been looking at bands who are similar to In this moment in terms of all these elements to try and get some inspiration as well as do some initial research.
When doing my research I found some other alternative metal bands who are similar to the one that we want to create in terms of their look, sound and style. These included Deftones, System of a down and as well as some other alternative metal bands who also have female singers which is quite rare which included Nightwish and Epica. These bands are similar to the one we are trying to create in terms of their star image and look as well as the fact that they produce music of the same genre.
In terms of bands who have similar websites to the one that we are trying to create I found many bands that were using similar layouts, designs, and colour schemes as well as haunting images and disturbing fonts which ties in nicely with the genre of music that the bands create as well as suit what the target audience would like. I also looked at the official website for In this moment to get some inspiration and I discovered that they use dark colours which work nicely with the use of red as well as some creepy imagery and their use of fonts surprised me a bit as they are not as disturbing as I thought they would be. Below is an image of In this moment's official website as well as some other websites that have inspired me and have similar ideas to the ones that we are considering including Nightwish, Epica and System of a down.
Some music videos that are similar to the idea that we are thinking of using include Bullet for my Valentine - Tears don't fall as it has a similar narrative as well as being of a similar genre and the band star image is quite similar too. Another music video that provided inspiration for the idea was the Foo Fighter's video for The pretender which features red paint coming out during their performance element which is similar to what we have in mind in terms of the effect of a rain machine and the band being affected by this and also the use of the colour red. Below are the videos for these two music videos which provided inspiration for this idea:
In terms of the social networking sites for the band they would probably use dark colours and definitely the use of red as this links with the title of the track, the narrative and also ties in nicely with the genre of music. Below are some ideas for some social networking sites which we could take inspiration from when creating our own for the band.
The idea for what the band looks like and what their star image is is reflective of the original band. The idea is to have the band members all wearing black and they would look quite mysterious and dark whereas we would want to juxtapose this against the use of a blonde female singer who would be wearing a dress and she would have a funky, edgy vibe to her. The band's image would be similar to that of Evanescene. I think that the band's star image would consists of the following values: rebellion, an anti-authoritarian attitude, aggression, anger and originality. This would be reflected in all three products that make up the campaign and I believe that these common values of music stardom will not only fit the band very well but they will also fit the genre of music that the band create very effectively.
