Editing 1

The first stage of the editing process involved reviewing all of the footage and watching back everything that we had filmed. This took an incredibly long time due to the fact that we had acquired over 200 shots on our shoot day.

The next stage involved renaming all of the shots so that they reflected what was involved in them and what type of camera angle/movement was used. We did this because it makes it much easier to identify the shots and it means that if there is a particular shot that we are looking for then we can find it quickly and easily.

After clearly labeling the shots we realised that there were some that could be eliminated for multiple reasons including the fact that they were inaccurately framed, focused or shot or possibly that they just wouldn't be useful in the final edit. Therefore the shot composition influenced whether or not we were going to be able to use certain shots.

The next job was to start syncing up all of the shots that we thought we were likely to use. This is a very long process as it involved being very careful and accurate so that each of the video clips matches the audio for the track. However, once we had done this it meant that cutting the shots together would be a lot easier and much quicker process as all the shots were already synced up with the track.

The next stage to the editing process will be starting to come up with an order bearing in mind our timeline and storyboard and starting to cut the shots together.

We had to place all of the appropriate shots on the timeline and the timeline was used as a base and then we layer on all of our video clips on top of the sound clip for the track which is placed onto the bottom. The timeline allows you to see all of the footage when it is put together and it also allows you to see the timings of each shot which helps during the syncing stage. The music track was the first thing that we placed on the timeline as this was the most crucial thing that we needed to put on the timeline before we could add an video footage on top of this.

We wanted to utilise some music video conventions within our music video such as the use of a wide shot of the dancers and close ups of the mad scientist who was also the artist. We decided to use these shots as these are the kind of shots that are used within professional music videos and therefore we were utilising music video conventions.

I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together and I'm really hoping that it looks effective and that our shots work well together.
