Editing 3

Yesterday we did some more editing and we started to progress with cutting the shots together as well as choosing appropriate shots and lengths of shots.

Our aim was to get to the lip sync section of the music video as this was a point that we felt that we could reach within the session as well as the fact that this was something that we wanted to review as a group.

We started by continuing to cut the shots together and place the shots in order on the timeline and this was important so that we could progress and so that we could see our video piecing itself together and see a structure within the video.

One of the important things that we had to do was consider which camera angle we wanted to use as we wanted to use something that was appropriate, was the bets out of the all of the options as well as fitting nicely with the type of camera angle that was used before and after as we wanted to ensure that we used a range of different camera angles and movement in order to create a variation within our video.

Another thing that we had to discuss and consider was when we wanted to stop one shot and start a new one as it was important for us to cut to the beat of the track that the shots flowed nicely but it was also important for us to consider how long we wanted each shot to be in order to ensure that it wasn't too long that t was boring for our audience or that it was too short that they missed what had happened. We decided that for the shots of the musicians and the mad scientist messing around with things that these shots would be slightly shorter and only last around 3 seconds whereas the shots of the mad scientist lip syncing and the dancers doing their routine would be longer and probably last around 5 or 6 seconds.

One of the issues that we ran into during this editing session was the fact that there were continuity issues with the shots we obtained of the mad scientist as in some of them we used the smoke machine and so the room appears to be cloudy and smokey whereas in other shots it is clear and there is no smoke used. This was a continuity issue and therefore we had to come up with a solution.

We decided to go with the close up sot of Mike lip syncing as this was the one where his lip syncing was the best quality as he was singing out loud rather than mouthing the words and therefore it looked more effective.

I really like the fact that we have managed to create a clear distinction between the mad scientist's office and the dancers and musicians sections due to the fact that this makes it look a bit more quirky and makes the audience curious to figure out how the elements link together.

When watching back what we had achieving in this session i pointed out the fact that the dancers exit the frame in one of the shots and then they magically appear later on in the video in the middle of the stage and this could become an issue with continuity later on, however, we are going to think about a way in which we can make this work.

Here is our 2nd edit of the music video:
