I have been looking at some of Public Service Broadcasting's music videos as these are similar to what we are envisioning for the mad scientist element of our music video.
We have been looking at their music videos to gt some inspiration for the kind of thing we could use in our music video for the mad scientist element. I really like the bureaucratic element to their videos and the use of the industrial backgrounds and tools which make the video unique and different. I particularly like the use of the instruments on the technology/valves as this would work really well for our video as a transition to make the instruments form the 1920's jazz band element link with the mad scientist element.
After much discussion and consideration as well as research into valve museums we have decided not to use a valve museum as a location shoot for our music video due to the fact that we couldn't find one that looked right in addition to the fact that the better museums for this sort of thing are in London and we don't have the budget nor the time to go and shoot in London for such a small transition element for our music video.
Instead of using a valve museum we have considered using lots of different things instead that would resemble technology and electricity creating the transition between the 1920's jazz club and the futuristic element.
We spoke the set designers and asked for their advice and anything that they could suggest as a alternative. They suggested using a guitar amp valve and wrapping the images of the band members on that in post production. They also suggested using the inside tubing of one of the large lights or simply just a single light bulb with the wires still inside it and have it flickering ad that could create the 'spark' that sets off the transition into the futuristic element.
This is what a guitar amp valve would look like:
This is what we are envisioning for the light bulb:
Another idea that we had was using a plasma sphere as this would link the mad scientist element as it is based around electricity and a current, however it would also tie in nicely with the futuristic element as they look quite quirky and funky. However, we did consider the fact that this could be quite predictable and therefore we have decided to abandon this idea.
After further discussion with the set designers and the production team we decided that we were just going to use the 4 computer operators that we have sourced and the many wires that we are going to hang and just use these to form our transition from the 1920's element to the futuristic element. I think we could follow the wires or we could somehow get the footage of the dancers from both element on the old computer screen and make it look like the mad scientist is making it happen through some kind of computer coding.
